Yale NUS Singapore

Luke Hughes has been commissioned for nearly twenty projects for Yale University, following the completion in 2013 of the seating in the public spaces at the Edward P Evans Hall, home of the Yale School of Management (working with Foster Architects).

The projects list includes the furniture for the three dining halls at the Yale NUS new campus in Singapore (designed by PCP Architects), all the dining furniture for Franklin College at Yale (architects Robert Stern Architects), and in the Sterling Library, the furniture for the circulation areas of the Bass Law Library (working with DBVW Architects), the library furniture for the Manuscripts and Archives Room, the reception furniture in the Nave entrance area and, most recently, the re-creation of the furniture for the L&B Reading Room at the Sterling Library.

The last three projects were a close collaboration with Apicella & Bunton Architects.

Yale is well-known for its architectural heritage, including the famous Bienecke Library and works by Louis Kahn, Eero Saarinen, James Gamble Rogers, Skidmore Owings & Merrill as well as the British architects, Norman Foster and Michael Hopkins).

Not many know that the Yale Museum has one of the most impressive collections of furniture too – the American Decorative Arts Furniture Study – a working library of more than 1,100 of furniture and wooden objects from 17th-21st century
